Welcome to our township Warkworth, heart of the Mahurangi District, in is now 170 years young in 2023 – a vibrant, progressive and developing region yet preserving the history of the past, This Heritage Trail has been prepared to help guide and inform you of our heritage. Warkworth takes pride in its Heritage and in the wooded environment that surrounds it’s dominant feature, the Mahurangi River.
Compared to other small settlements close to Auckland, Warkworth has a significant variety of sites and structures that have been awarded historic status by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. These sites and buildings are noted in the guide thus NZHPT registered. On behalf of our townspeople, welcome, and I hope you enjoy the beauty and ambiance of our town as well as the adventures of outlying districts and a stunning coastline There is much to see and do here.
Commercially we have almost every industry represented. Community wise, we are endowed with numerous voluntary organisations, sports groups and other interests. For further information – do drop into our Information Centre

The Walking Trail
Visit some of the town’s original buildings and sites which of the landscape today, The trail is designed to be easy and informative, one to one-and-a-half-hour walk The walk up Church Hill (from site 15-19) 1s a fairly progressive climb, However, for those who choose to tackle it the view of the township is splendidly panoramic.
The Driving Trail
Take in some of the historic sites in close vicinity to the town. At each site there is a chance to enjoy a short walk through native bush to further enhance your Heritage Trail experience. To enjoy those sites fully we
suggest you allow 2-3 hours.
